My New Work Out Equipment

This is how I've been working out for the last three days. We have an electric lawn mower, but I hate it. We once had a gas mower and I hated that one as well. This one, however, is quite enjoyable, except for the fact that it takes about twenty minutes to tame a few square feet of bushy lawn. If you mow frequently then it cuts the grass like butter and rolls over the ground effortlessly. So the idea is that I will keep the grass cut. But I'm still trying to cut down the long thick stuff and I break a sweat every time I do it.

Truthfully, it's more enjoyable breaking a sweat with this mower than it is breaking a sweat at the gym. For every bit of lawn I manage to trim I get the enjoyable sensation of having accomplished something.

Now I have to eat some breakfast and get my fat ass on my bicycle and ride downtown to get some bread. I just got a new lock for the bike so there is no reason not to take it out. Not even the dark clouds in the sky are reason not to do an errand on the bicycle today.

How are you all working out these days?

Well, as you saw from my last post, it has been a mix of elliptical and walking, but since I won the contest I have been doing far more walking than elliptical. I hate working out, I really do, so walking feels much more organic and purposeful than getting on the elliptical. I did get on it this morning though. I also did some gardening yesterday and Saturday.

I think walking is one of the best exercises but you really have to go fast to burn calories...it's easier to get your heart rate up with the elliptical. I think walking is one of the best things to do often to maintain what people like to refer to as an "active" life.

I've been riding my bicycle the last two days and it's really killing my thighs. That's good though. Now, if only I can keep it up the way you have been doing with the elliptical.

I go pretty fast and I break a sweat every time. Isabel jogs to keep up. The great thing about walking is that everyone has gotten healthier and quickly, too. Isabel couldn't keep up without griping and getting winded two weeks agon and she keeps up like a trooper now. Of course, Maddy's stride isn't much shorter than mine, so she has an easier time than Isabel. Juliana is lucky and gets a ride in the jogger!

The reality is that I hate exercise machines. I think that if I had to work out on one five times per week for the rest of my life, I'd rather stay fat. So, here's my new tack. Walk about 25 minutes or more per day and hop on the elliptical for extra credit. So far so good.
